Glam Pink and Black - Another Year of Fabulous!

I styled this "Another Year of Fabulous" for my niece's 17th birthday.  She really liked the Glam Pink & Black Bunco Party that I styled for my daughter a few months back . We found the perfect pink and black tableware on  Party City site called  "Another Year of Fabulous" Collection! Party City sent us a party in the box with everything from paper goods to candy and favors to style the dessert table! I was amazed by the quality of the products and how well they were packed.

Party City made styling this table a breeze!! No need for printables, custom cookies or cakes to make this table super cute! By displaying the candy, party favors and store bought cupcakes on the same table, I was able to style an eye catching sweet table without much time for planning.

Glam Black and Pink Bunco Night

We had a BUNCO party to celebrate my daughter’s 14th Birthday. The girls didn’t know much about the game upon arrival but I explained the rules while they had dinner. We served all my daughter’s favorite appetizers for dinner like zingers, cream cheese/herbs dip(in the shape of a dice – made by my daughter), pizza rolls, dumplings, spring rolls and mozzarella sticks. After dinner we started the game and took a break after a couple rounds for some dessert! As per my daughter request, we had a chocolate fountain! It was a huge hit! None of the girls had ever had the pleasure to enjoy such yummy treat! As for dipping, they enjoyed some fresh strawberries, marshmallows, pretzels and Oreos.
We got back to the game and at that point all the girls were into the game! The music was loud, they were screaming and giggling! We had a bright pink boa that was passed around every time someone else scored a BUNCO! We were able to finish all the 6 rounds of the game! The winner took home the boa as a prize! We also had favors for all the girls! They took home giant plush dice, candy, chocolate bar and beads. After the game we sang Happy Birthday and opened the gifts. We had Oreo ice cream cake(my daughter’s favorite cake), dice cake pops and chocolate cornered fortune cookies for our second round of desserts! The girls loved playing BUNCO and now they want to organize a Mother/Daughter BUNCO Mexican Night!

Powder Room Stenciled Accent Wall

I finally finished my powder room accent wall!
I felt in love with Nadya Damask Stencil from Cutting Edge and knew that it was going to be the perfect addition/pop of color for my powder room!

My powder room is very small so it was hard to take really good pictures. These pictures don't do justice to the WOW effect that stencil did to the bathroom.

The quality of the stencil is amazing and the stencil kit is a must! The kit comes with a dense foam roller, a bristle stencil brush and a clip-on stencil level.  I love the clip-on stencil level!! What a huge time-saver!!

Here is the video that I watched before I did my accent wall. Super informative!

Festa Junina 2013 - Brazilian Traditions

Our Annual Festa Junina was very special this year because my parents, sister and nieces were here visiting us from Brazil!
Since moving back from Brazil in 2010,  I kept this tradition alive for my children.
You can check out my previous Festa Juninas HERE and HERE.
We celebrate the month of June(and sometimes in July) with parties that can be even bigger than Carnaval in some cities. Those parties are called Festas Juninas and they celebrate saints Anthony, John and Peter with lots of traditional foods, drinks and a theatrical dance inherited from the French called quadrilha (a type of square dance). They usually take place in a large open space outdoors called an arraial.
Food like corn bread, pacoca(peanut butter candy), pe de moleque(peanut bars), sweet popcorn,  brigadeiro(chocolate fudge), canjica(sweet corn pudding), caramelized apples, corn on the cob, hot dogs, quentao(Brazilian spiced alcoholic drink) and batidas(tropical fruits cocktails) are a must!
At any Festa Junina, men dress up as farm boys with large straw hats and women wear pigtails, freckles, painted gap teeth and red-checkered dresses, all in a loving tribute to the origins of Brazilian country music. Like during Carnival, these festivities involve costume-wearing (in this case, peasant costumes), dancing and fun games for the children.
My parents brought from Brazil goodies like pe de moleque(peanut bars), pacoca(peanut butter candy) and bananadas(banana candy bar). We also had some fun playing with some poppers just like we do in Brazil!
Fishing Game, Musical Chairs, Hit or Miss can game, kissing booth, correio do amor(love mail - send an anonymous message to someone you like/care), egg on the spoon and sack race are traditional games at  any Festa Junina!

My father made delicious kabobs(churrasquinho) and sausage on the stick(salsichao)!
Usually the adults get together couple of days before the party to practice the  "quadrilha" which features couple formations around a mock wedding whose bride and groom are the central attraction of the dancing. You can download songs (portuguese only) that tells you what moves to make and what to do or/and say. We did  a small version and I translated to my guests the words of the song.
My daughter was the bride and my son the groom! Too funny!!

Hope you enjoyed learning a little bit of my culture!
Thank you for stopping by!
XO,
Cris
